Falls Church, VA: The Armenian American Democratic Leadership Council (AADLC) today announced the launch of its new website at http://WWW.AADLC.ORG
The website will help expand the organization's outreach to the nation's increasingly active Armenian American community. Specifically, the site will be used to help spearhead the organization's "Take Back The House in 2002" campaign. "For the next 22 months leading up to the November 2002 elections, one of our key goals will be to help Minority Leader Dick Gephardt take the gavel from Speaker Dennis J. Hastert," said an AADLC spokesperson. "Our new website is a critical part of this effort."
The user friendly website features the latest AADLC news, information on its mission, an archive of the group's press releases, and a feature for users to join the AADLC's growing list of supporters. The website also feature an Action Alert page which allows visitors to support policy and political initiatives of interest to Armenian American Democrats. The current Action Alert calls on Armenian American Democrats to encourage first term Democratic Representatives to join the Armenian Caucus.
Another feature of the site highlights "AADLC All-Stars" - leading Members of Congress who have distinguished themselves on issues important to Armenian-American voters. The current "All-Star" is Rep. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who serves as the Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus.
Since its founding in 1996, the AADLC has worked with the Democratic National Committee to foster support within the Armenian American community for the Democratic Party and national Democratic office holders. The AADLC has also promoted the election of Armenian American Democrats to political office and encouraged participation by Armenian American Democrats at all levels of the public policy process.
During the 2000 election cycle, the AADLC educated Armenian- American voters on the high level of support Democrats in Congress have given to issues important to them, their families and communities. From efforts to honor the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, to working to strengthen U.S.-Armenia relations, Democrats in Congress have led the way in reaching out and supporting the concerns of Armenian-Americans. Whether it has been Representatives David Bonior (D-MI) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ) spearheading efforts to reaffirm official U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide or Senators Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) defending Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, Democratic friends of the Armenian American community have stood tall in defense of the Armenian Cause so dear to a million and a half Armenian-Americans.
