Speaking at the Armenian Genocide Observance in the U.S. Capitol, Rep. Richard Gephardt delivered a powerful address in support of Armenian American issues, including a call for the release of the $12.5 million allocated by Congress for Nagorno Karabagh.
Congressman Gephardt pledged to work actively with the Administration to release the funds for Karabagh, stressing that:
"It should have been done before now and we will work actively to get it to happen. I think that efforts by the governments of Turkey and Azerbaijan to prevent assistance from getting to the people of Armenia, are - to put it in a word - outrageous. They are absolutely outrageous, and I will make every effort with many of the Members who are here to see to it that this outrage does not continue, that it stop and this assistance goes forward."
